Also closed: EJ's Steakhouse, Ground Central

EJ's SteakhousePizza Fusion (read my review) isn’t the only restaurant that’s closed in the northeast Mesa strip mall known as The Shoppes at Legacy House.

EJ’s Steakhouse (read review), the city’s only upscale steakhouse, has shut its doors after less than two years of operation. EJ’s also closed its stand-alone butcher shop next door.

Ground Central Coffee Hut, located next door to Pizza Fusion, also has closed.

A cryptic note posted on the door on Pizza Fusion reads, “Due to a structural defect in the complex, Pizza Fusion has chosen to relocate to help protect the health and welfare of its staff and guests.

“We regret having to make this move as our future location is yet undetermined and we will miss everyone greatly.”

I have heard that the problem is the plumbing was not done correctly in the strip mall and the only way to correct the problem is to level the buildings. Hence both EJ’s and Pizza Fusion have closed as well as all the other businesses who occupied the space. It is a huge loss to the East Valley and I hope they both are able to relocate.

Had dinner at EJ’s one time. Very over priced food for the quality. Atmosphere was impeccable. Never returned

  3. Steve says:

EJ’s was amazing and will sorely be missed.

WHY DON’T THEY ALL MOVE TO MESA’S ….NEWEST FIASCO….THE GATEWAY RESORT.

MY PREDICTION = TOBY KEITH’S WILL BE GONE BY 2010 ALONG WITH BASS PRO SHOP AND ALL THE RIVERVIEW STORES AND RESTAURANTS.

  5. Stevee says:

EJ’s was extremely overpriced. We had to pay near 40$ for steaks that definitely lacked quality, thats 40$ per steak, the whole tab for three was well over 300$, we never returned, I’m sure others had similar experiences. You can do fine dining in Mesa but you have to provide value for the money. EJ’s did not provide any value for the meal costs involved.

Only went to EJ’s once. The place was really nice however the food was waaaay overpriced.

  7. Louise says:

We went there once, way to expensive and the steaks were small, then you get a 5 pound baked potato??? We wouldn’t go back.

  8. Ryan says:

Went to EJ’s a few times, unfortunately the food quality went down with each visit. Definitely was expensive. Appreciated the fact it was close to home, but wish they had kept up with the quality.

We passed EJ’s and Pizza Fusion many times and said , we should stop there and have dinner, although we never did. I have stopped at Office Max and the Auto Zone .I think this is typical of the new strip malls in east Mesa. Look at the Las Sendas strip mall. Only the Egg and I have seemingly regular customers.
