Down Under Wines & Bistro, the popular Australian wine bar and wine retail shop, has moved to Gilbert.
After eight years in a strip mall in front of Chandler Fashion Center, Down Under has relocated to the former Baja Fresh building on the northeast corner of McQueen and Warner roads.
Along with a smattering of lounge chairs and knick-knacks from the former location, the new Down Under also has a large patio.
Partners Roger Carpenter and Phil Roberts (pictured) haven’t changed the Aussie-Asian fusion menu, which still features such exotic fare as crocodile potstickers, ostrich sliders and kangaroo salad.
For the not-so-adventurous, Down Under offers a wide range of flatbread pizzas, brushcetta, salads and cheese plates.
A grand opening celebration is being planned for January. Carpenter and Rogers also are hosting a New Year’s Eve party where diners can enjoy eight wine tastings paired with eight foods for $55 per person.
The New Year’s Eve celebration also will include an oyster bar, a suckling pig station and a champagne bar for an additional cost.
Down Under Wines & Bistro, 1422 W. Warner Road, Gilbert, opens at 11 a.m. daily. Info: (480) 705-7131 or downunderwinestore.com.
