Chompies, the small East Valley chain of New York-style delis, is introducing the Ultimate Jewish Slider Challenge, daring diners to finish a dozen of its signature Jewish sliders in 30 minutes or less.
Jewish Sliders, for the uninitiated, are mini challah rolls stuffed with brisket, potato pancake and Jack cheese and served with a side of brown gravy. The regular menu offers three for $10.99.
Former Arizona State University baseball player Greg Bordes (pictured), who will be a manager for the 2010 Sun Devils, will be the first to try the challenge at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Chompies’ Tempe location, 1160 E. University Drive.
Bordes’ attempt will be broadcast live on KDUS (1060 AM) from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Anyone is welcome to compete with Bordes, who played at ASU from 2005-2008. If you succeed, you’ll be inducted into Chompies’ online Hall of Fame. But if you don’t finish the 5-pound meal in 30 minutes it’ll cost you $44.95.
After Tuesday, the challenge will be available anytime at all three Chompies.
