1st competitor falls short in Jewish Slider Challenge

You still can be the first person to conquer Chompies‘ Ultimate Jewish Sliders Challenge.

The eating contest – in which you have to finish a dozen of the East Valley deli’s brisket sliders in less than 30 minutes – kicked off Tuesday with former ASU baseball player Greg Bordes (pictured above) volunteering to be the first to try it.

Bordes even brought his own coach  – ASU sports information director Randy Policar, a fan of TV’s “Man v. Food” – to Chompies’ Tempe location near the university.

Unfortunately, Bordes finished less than half of the five-pound meal in the allotted time.

So who will be the first to conquer the sliders? The challenge is available any time at all three Chompies locations. If you successfully complete the challenge, the meal is free. If not, you’ll have to pay the $44.95 menu price.
