Salsa Challenge looking for contestants

My Nana’s Salsa Challenge, scheduled for April 24 at Tempe Beach Park,  is putting out the call for 2010 contestants.

The annual event, a fundraiser for Arizona Hemophilia Association,  features three categories – individual, group and business. Each category has two divisions:  spicy and mild.

Contestants have to prepare 13 gallons of salsa on-site (ingredients can be pre-chopped, but not pre-mixed) that will be judged for aroma, consistency, appropriate heat level, color and taste.

There also will be a margarita mix-off for local bartenders and amateurs.

For the first time, the Salsa Challenge’s grand champion will receive a cash prize of $1,000. The margarita champion will get $500.

Last year’s grand champions were the Drunken Jalapenos, a group from Gilbert.

A very interesting competition! I wonder if there is any restaurant or grocer who plans to be in attendance interested in purchasing the winning recipe for service or distribution?
